Lifelines

Lifelines was an art action for International Women's Day 2023 made in collaboration with four grass- roots Feminist activist collectives.

March 4th Los Angeles Historic Park

“Lifelines,” which took place in Los Angeles, is an art performance that opposes violence against women and demonstrates solidarity with the women in Iran. Tomorrow Girls Troop, Los Angeles-based artist Elana Mann, Tsukuru Fors, feminist artist group She Loves Collective, Ni Santas, and feminist activist group AF3IRM all collaborated to organize this project for International Women’s Day in 2023.

In 2022, a woman in Iran was arrested, assaulted, and killed by the police for wearing a hijab “improperly.” A global movement for Iranian women’s rights began in response to this event under the slogan “Women, Life, Freedom!” and amplified the voices speaking out about the violence against women occurring around the world.

Co-produced by artist groups based in Southern California, this project brought together Iranian women and a diverse group of feminists with Asian, South American, North American, Middle Eastern, and Jewish backgrounds. We called for solidarity across borders in our respective languages.
